Vacheron Constantin Malte Tourbillon Regulator

Vacheron Constantin Malte Tourbillon Regulator Another marvellous watch in the Vacheron Constantin Collection Excellence Platine, but nowhere near the Malte Perpetual Calendar Chronograph in beauty. As it turns out, the one thing that makes this watch stand out, is the one thing I do not like about it: I do not think that the shape of the case goes well with the actual design and finish of the dial. Maybe a round shaped case would have worked better.

Some specs. Movement:  Manual-wind caliber 1790R,  22 jewels. 18,000 bph. The Power reserve: 40 hours. Water resistant to 30 metres. Regulator layout and Tourbillon.

Limited edition of 50 pieces (platinum).

Vacheron Constantin Malte Perpetual Calendar Chronograph

Vacheron Constantin Malte Perpetual ChronographYou all know how much I love  Vacheron Constantin Malte watches. Here is the Malte Perpetual Calendar Chronograph. Simply beautiful. It looks different to many of the Malte watches I have come across, but none the less marvellous for that. I love the alligator leather strap, an understated but pleasing contrast to the platinum dial.

This watch is part of the Vacheron Constantin Collection Excellence Platine. Another watch in that collection is the Malte Tourbillon Regulator.

Some specs. Movement: manual-wind caliber 1141QP with 21 jewels. 21,000 bph. Water resistant to 30 metres. Power reserve: 40 hours.

Vacheron Constantin Chronometre Royal 1907

I must have been looking the other way, but in the past few days, one of my favourite watchmakers unveiled a truly wonderful creation: the Vacheron Constantin Chronometre Royal 1907 does not depart much from the traditional Vacheron Constantin look we know and love, but in this model, there is clear evidence of daring and a lot of unfettered creativity. Yes, it features an 18k rose-gold case, almost standard with most marvellous watches nowadays, but it is the Grand Feu enamelled dial that wins all the awards with me.

Vacheron Constantin Malte Power Reserve & Date

My fascination with Vacheron Constantin Malte watches has been well-documented on this blog.

Vacheron Constantin Malte Power Reserve DateAnd the delightful watchmaker continues to oblige me. Here comes the Vacheron Constantin Malte Power Reserve & Date. The idea behind this watch is to combine in one timepiece both the power reserve and date complications. And it also has that Malte simplicity I love so much.

As you can see from the picture, this watch comes in 18 carat white or pink gold. Unusually for me, I actually prefer the white gold version. You can probably see why.

And check out the hand-stitched alligator mississipiensis leather. I prefer the brown.

Specs. Movement: Vacheron Constantin 1420 movement. Manual wound. 20 jewels, 28,800 v/ph. Power reserve: circa 40 hours.

Vacheron Constantin Limited Edition Malte for Russia

vcmoscow Courtesy of TimeZone, this beauty from Vacheron Constantin. But hands off, it’s exclusively for the watchmaker’s Moscow boutique, and they have made only five pieces.

And I love the Russian coat of arms at the back. Just the sort of thing to delight a patriotic oligarch.

Vacheron Constantin Malte Chronograph

After spending some time admiring the Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Traditionelle Automatic, my thoughts turned to whether that is now my favourite Vacheron Constantin watch of all time.

Hmm. I think it’s a close run thing between that and the Malte Chronograph (below).

I’m not sure which I prefer. The Patrimony Traditionelle Automatic is self-winding, while the Malte Chronograph is manually wound. So that’s more marks to the Malte. That aside, they are two totally different watches, appealing to different parts of me. The Patrimony, with understated elegance, appeals to my calm, ordered nature. The Malte, on the other hand, while not exactly flash, carries with it just a hint of daring. For example, a Malte on a vicar’s wrist, and you might conclude that he preached his sermons with a bit of edge.

So the verdict. Patrimony or Malte, which is it for me? Answer: it depends on the day.

Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Traditionelle Automatic

What can I say? I love the Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Traditionelle Automatic. Such beautiful simplicity.

Nothing more to say, this watch speaks for itself.
